How much does window tinting cost?

Because every project is unique, we offer free quotes for an exact price before any payment is required. Each quote depends on the number of windows you need covered and the type of film you select.

How long does window tinting take?

For most vehicles, we can complete a full tinting project in less than a day, often within a few hours. Residential and commercial projects vary based on square footage; a single room might take a morning, while a full office building could take several days. We will give you a specific time estimate with your quote.

Which window tint percentages are most popular?

In Texas, many drivers choose to tint their front side windows at 25%, which is the darkest legal limit for that specific glass. For rear windows on trucks and SUVs, "limo tint" (around 5%) is very popular for maximum privacy. We also see many customers choose to match their front windows to the factory tint on their rear windows for a uniform look.

Do you offer tint removal?

We certainly offer removal services. Old film that has turned purple, bubbled, or peeled can be difficult to strip off without the right tools. So we professionally remove your old tint and clean the glass.

Are you available for work on Saturday and Sunday?

We can schedule work for Monday through Friday evenings, and anytime on Saturday. We are closed on Sundays.

Do you require a deposit for larger projects?

For standard vehicle jobs, we generally do not require a deposit. However, for large commercial or residential projects, we require a 50% deposit upfront. This allows us to order any needed materials specifically for your job and secure your place on our schedule.

Which types of window tint are legal in Texas?

Texas law states that front side windows must allow at least 25% of light to pass through (VLT). The rear side windows and back windshield can be as dark as you like, provided your vehicle has side mirrors. You can also tint the top 5 inches of your windshield (above the AS-1 line).

Do you have a shop I can visit, or are you strictly mobile?

We are a fully mobile service. We do not have a customer-facing storefront because we believe in bringing the solution to you. We travel to homes, offices, and job sites throughout East Texas, saving you the hassle of dropping off your car or waiting in a lobby.

How long has Shades of Gray been in business?

Michael Lazarz began tinting windows in the late 1980s. With over four decades of hands-on experience, Shades of Gray Window Tinting has been serving the East Texas community with reliable, high-quality craftsmanship across countless projects that have stood the test of time.

What is the difference between your warranty options?

We stand behind every job. Our standard window film comes with a 7-year warranty, which covers you against peeling and cracking. If you choose our premium carbon or ceramic films, you receive a lifetime warranty.

What do I need to provide for a mobile car tinting appointment?

To ensure a flawless installation, we need a location that is sheltered from direct wind and dust, such as a garage, carport, or large shade tree. Direct sunlight and high winds can cause the film to dry too quickly or trap debris against the glass. We also need access to the vehicle and enough space to move around it freely.

Is window tinting worth it?

The energy savings alone often justify the cost for homeowners and businesses, as tinted windows can significantly lower cooling bills in the Texas summer. For vehicle owners, the protection against UV damage, heat rejection, and increased privacy makes it one of the most practical upgrades you can purchase.

What window tint options are available?

We offer three main tiers of film to suit your budget and goals. Standard tint provides privacy and basic glare reduction. Carbon tint offers a durable matte finish that won't fade or interfere with cell signals. Ceramic tint is our top-tier option, using nanotechnology to reject the highest amount of heat and UV rays without being overly dark.

How long do I need to wait before rolling windows down after vehicle tinting?

We recommend keeping your windows rolled up for at least 3 to 5 days after installation. This allows the adhesive to cure completely. Rolling them down too soon can shift the film or cause it to peel at the bottom gasket.

Do you tint residential and commercial windows, or just vehicles?

We tint it all. While we started with cars, a significant portion of our business is now dedicated to architectural tinting. We have tinted everything from residential storm doors and living room windows to dental offices, municipal courts, and churches.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, personal checks, and major credit and debit cards.
